Design Authorship
My Design Authorship journey
Research
Below is a brainstorm of my ideas based on what I could design my book on. I have chosen quite a few relevant topics to myself as I feel this would make my book more interesting, however each subject would be expanded on.
I have decided to go with the stereotypes idea, and possibly talk about either race or music. One problem I have is that if i discuss stereotypes of people, it could possibly offend some people, although stereotypes are not necessarily real! They are just common opinions of peoples race!
Questionnaires:
I have decided to base my book on stereotypes of music. I think that this subject is very interesting and I believe that people have different opinions of different music genres. In order to find out theses stereotypes I will conduct a questionnaire and send it out to people via Facebook. I have a wide variety of friends of different races, age groups and who all are interested in different genres of music. Therefore the results from my questionnaire will be quite diverse as opposed to very similar. Below is a copy of my questionnaire.
Responses from the questionnaire where all very different, some could have be classed as very stereotypical, which is what I was after, I felt that some people did hold back with their responses, although some where actually quite funny! The results were very interesting and I am planning to develop my book from the questionnaire. I will most probably develop the pages in relation to the opinions given in the results.
Music Mood Boards
I gathered images together for each music genre I asked about in my questionnaires. The mood board for each genre is my interpretation/stereotype.
Research on different types of book binding
There are many ways to bind a book. Including thesis binding, perfect binding, saddle stitch binding, saddle loop binding, case binding, fast bind, could binding, plastic/comb binding and double loop binding.
For my particular book, I am going to use perfect binding. Perfect Binding. I want to design a softcover book and for this reason I feel perfect binding will give a clean cut and fresh overall look.
The process of perfect binding consists of the pages being glued along the edges inside of a wraparound cover that includes the front, back, and spine. Books bound in this manner look very professional. This is also the most flexible method of binding when it comes to specialty sizes.
How music affects our mood
Music not only gives you something to sing and dance to, but it also can make you feel happier. Studies have shown that music therapy helps to ease the symptoms of depression and even helps to relieve pain.
Classical music is one of the least popular music selections around, but it is one of the most empowering. Classical music has been found to increase creativity, reduce tension and enhance specific types of intelligence such as verbal ability and spatial-temporal reasoning. It does not make you more intelligent, but instead provides you with an ideal environment for thinking. Listening to classical music can be an effective therapy to give yourself, as it will leave you feeling calm, content, and productive.
Country music is one of the genres that doesn't promote happy feelings. Country music has been linked to depression and suicide. Suicide rates for Caucasian Americans living in metropolitan areas are higher in those cities where more country music is played on the radio. If you find yourself feeling down and depressed, country music is definitely not the music you want to be listening to.
Rap or hip hop music has varying effects on people. Young adults, both male and female, who listen to rap music are generally more accepting of violence towards women. Rap songs are more known to promote angry feelings than any other. However, there are numerous people who state that rap music makes them feel more relaxed. Others feel more energetic and happy because a lot of rap music promotes dancing and movement. This genre is just one of the examples of music with diverse results.
The effects of rock and punk music are similar to those of rap. It can leave a listener feeling angrier than before, but at the same time gives them an adrenaline rush like no other kind of music. This adrenaline rush of energy can actually increase happiness in certain individuals. It allows people to escape from their situations and relieve some built up stress. The effect of rock and roll will really just depend on the person listening to it. If you enjoy this type of music, then the positive effects will take place. However, if you don't prefer listening to rock, then the angry and annoyed feelings will come out of it.
Title options for stereotypes of music
"Loud"
"Steriotopical"

I decided to use the title stereotypical. This is because the book will be based on stereotypes of music, however how do you listen to your music....on your sterio! The book also covers topics on music genres. Therefore I thought stereotypical would be an interesting twist to my book.
